iGroovie and the Implications of AI Programming

I have a problem. AI writes code for web apps better than I ever could. Unless I want to make one for the love of the game, I’d be wasting time not to use it.

Case in point, iGroovie. This is a new app that I had AI make for me in a couple of hours. The time it took mainly came down to my meticulous review of its work and numerous suggestions.

I couldn't be happier with the finished product, though. Those who use iMovie know that you cannot add non-animated text overlays. This is an annoying oversight. Thankfully, iGroovie lets you put text on a canvas and export it as a PNG overlay. It's awesome!

That said, I have some complicated opinions on this stuff. When it comes to things like writing, AI is lame, as it removes the self-expression from the equation. However, making a simple web app is not necessarily an artistic or expressive venture. Not for me, at least.

Make no mistake, it CAN be super cool and creative to write a web app from scratch. I’ve done it. However, I feel like AI did a way better job at making iGroovie than I ever could. It still followed my creative direction, and it created a more cohesive product than I could.

Perhaps the sad truth is that this is where the industry is headed. This has been an interesting experiment, and it’s crazy how well VS Code’s built-in AI did at realizing my vision. However, when it comes to more complex projects, like games or some mobile apps (like my own Violoncello), I am strongly opposed to having AI do all of the work. That might just be where the world's headed, though. Regardless, in this context, I think it made a lot of sense to use it.

For better or worse, the fact is clear: Anybody can make these simple web apps now thanks to AI. By extension, jobs will disappear with these rapid advancements. Computer programming has been changed forever.

But enough serious stuff, go ahead and check out iGroovie! It’s amazing and does exactly what I wanted it to. It’s on GitHub for you to explore and use in your own videos.

Just don't get it twisted; I will never be an AI programming shill. Unless the robots take over... Then, maybe!
